Frequently Asked

Questions

What should I expect during a pelvic floor physical therapy evaluation and/or treatment?

Each appointment will be one-on-one with your physical therapist, Dr. Jana in the comfort of your own home. Your 60-minute session will include hands-on assessment, personalized exercises, and time to address your specific concerns. Babies/children are always welcome to be present during sessions!

How many sessions will I need to improve?

This varies from patient to patient but most patients notice improvement within 1-2 sessions and will feel relief and complete their plan of care within 6-8 sessions. You will work with your physical therapist to develop a targeted plan of care just for you.

Do you take insurance?

Pelvic Performance is an out-of-network provider meaning we do not accept insurance. We choose to be an out-of-network provider so that your service is not affected by time and quality restrictions mandated by insurance companies. This allows us to provide individualized care that is in line with your body’s symptoms and dysfunction rather than being constrained by insurance company metrics. Thus, giving us the space to provide you with the best quality care so that you can get better quicker.

We can, however, provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement. Reimbursement will vary according to the terms of your insurance policy.

What payments do you accept?

Cash, check and Venmo are accepted. You can also reimburse yourself with FSA or HSA using your superbill receipt.

What is your travel radius?

Dr. Jana will travel 20 miles to the homes of her patients. If you live outside of the travel radius, we can discuss clinic visits, virtual visits and other treatment options.

Do I need an internal exam?

An internal exam is helpful, but not required. An internal exam is a vaginal exam of the pelvic floor muscles and any other structures that are appropriate. The physical therapist assesses the pelvic floor muscles using a gloved finger. There are no speculums or other tools used during the exam. Sometimes, an internal rectal exam might be more appropriate. There should never be any pressure to have an internal exam and it is not embarrassing if you choose to decline. It is your body and what you say goes! An internal exam gives pelvic floor physical therapists a better understanding of whether your pelvic floor muscles are tight, weak and what happens when you try to use them. With that said, there are many other areas, outside of the pelvic floor that Dr. Jana will assess and treat, and you can still benefit from pelvic floor PT without having an internal exam.

Do you treat men?

Yes! Common male conditions we treat are urinary incontinence and urinary incontinence post-prostatectomy or prostate cancer, pelvic pain and pain from chronic prostatitis, hip and low back pain, constipation, fecal incontinence, and hernia.

Do you treat children?

Yes! Everyone has a pelvic floor.
